THANK YOU IS SUCH A SMALL THING TO SAY!
It goes a long way. This thought has crossed my mind several times as I rushed to get Sophia together at the crack of dawn. Where is her sweater? Where is her jacket? What did I do with the Greenies? I know the designated roll of poo bags are in the bottom of the bag somewhere and they should be pink and easy to see – because pink is for girls!. An extra leash, Electronic health credentials, let me see… what else… where is the food? Oh my gosh! Just grab a small can of Hills Science Diet… let’s go!.
I hate to say it. But one or two snowy winter mornings I actually made it to the truck with the packed doggie day bag and without Sophia! Lordy. But what a blessing the Pet Sitter is to receive her, warm and snuggly at 6:02 AM and have me swear on a biscuit that I will not be the last pet parent at pickup today.
WHAT WERE YOU DOING OUT THERE?
When you finally do come bounding back in thru the doors, what stories are prepared to tell? I mean, just what in the heck happened out there? Do you even have the courage to tell your story with a straight face? Lol! Man! This is why it pays to be a good tipper, doesn’t it? The look of incredulity on the Pet Sitters face on some days instantly tells you to silently ‘shove it lady!’ and so, you sort of do. You take Fluffy in exchange for the ‘I know I promised to be on time this time but I couldn’t help it and it really wasn’t my fault plus I was well aware that you have a life too and needed to be somewhere’s else 30 minutes ago and yes my smartphone works fine but as I was about to answer your call the car ahead of me – o geez I am wasting more of your time! tip money and you go.
When you think about it, what story could you tell? I mean, what is your best Pet Sitter faux pas?
HOW DO I BECOME A PET SITTER ANYWAY?
Well, you like dogs and cats and other types of animals well enough to watch and care for them from time to time but what about making money? I mean, could this be a career move? Well, yeah! Heck, yeah. Lots of people do this and make a darn good living. But…what if you haven’t got any experience? Then what? Can you start from scratch? Here are a few great examples of how to begin. Here’s what to do:
- YOU HAVE TO BE MOTIVATED
- YOU HAVE TO BE DEDICATED
- YOU HAVE TO GET ALONG GOOD WITH THE ANIMALS
- YOU NEED MUSCLES FOR HANDLING BIG DOGS
- YOU SHOULD BE RELIABLE
- YOU SHOULD BE TRUSTWORTHY
- YOU SHOULD POSSESS GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- YOU SHOULD HAVE REFERENCES AS YOU GAIN EXPERIENCE
- YOU SHOULD BE WILLING TO VOLUNTEER
That’s probably not everything you’d need to know, but it’s a good start on how to gain experience in this field. Volunteerism is great. Particularly if you are willing to begin with Doggy Daycare. Lots of pet parents leave their fur babies there because the businesses have good ratings and reviews for safety and customer satisfaction. And, the more popular the establishment becomes, perhaps, the more assistance it could use in a single day. Try volunteering for tasks on a limited basis. One or two hours might do the trick and land you a reference for next time plus help you to gauge whether or not this career move really could be for you. Go Pet Sitter!
Alrighty, guys. Sophia and I have returned to Orijens. But this time to try something ‘raw’. Who knew? She didn’t mind it, but I was the one who had to work up the nerve to go for it. I have seen plenty of news articles on the effects of feeding raw. You know, I have never agreed with it. Something about the opportunity for ingesting parasites is a huge turn-off. Insurance plans and pet plans or not – I do not want to take Miss Sophia up to the Veterinarian with the upset stomach of the century,
As a rule, I feel that her little body is getting what it needs. Since I know that she can consume fish and fish oils for the omega 3 fatty acids, raw fish is a possibility. I have given Sophia fish oil supplements in the past for the beautification of her coat and to keep her skin healthy – and she flourished. I do admit, that if she had no other way, was out there toughing it without an owner and she had to eat, that anything at all … any bird or vermin or fish she came across would do. To me, that’s raw. But with a loving owner – no way. Balanced, nutritional, veterinarian-approved foods come from our table only.
This week, I followed a trend. Orijen Six Fish is in the raw category. What you’ll get is a blend of Whole Atlantic Mackerel, Whole Atlantic Herring, Flounder, Acadian Redfish, Monkfish, and Silver Hake. The bites are large and hearty. Our resident taste tester wasted no time getting down to business. I have to say that the quality of this food is extremely high. No odors, no color inconsistencies, no broken pieces, no digestibility issues, and what I noticed, in particular, is that Sophia quickly became full. She left a good portion of her small meal for much later in the day. I like that because this is expensive. [4.6 out of 5-star rating] This food is much more expensive than any selection I have ever purchased for my pet. [$106.99/25lb] So, if you are investing in this feed prepare for the price. The good news is that the feed will be with your pet for quite a while.
Now, what I’d like to insert here is my personal video including laboratory proof on how dog food is made and what makes one food produced in the food labs and kitchens better than the next plus what to avoid when choosing raw. But, on a large-scale production level, I just don’t have video production capabilities, or facilities access yet. Eventually!!! That level of blogging and social proof is high on my list of priorities. Currently, I am a simple blogger. I am trying these brands with my pet, based on my own research. I hope this review is useful to you as you go out into the marketplace to make new choices for your pet. I’ve tried this brand for myself and am not sponsored to sway your opinions in any way. Ok, guys, it is good, I recommend it. Please leave us with your comments.
